Odoo MCP Server troubleshooting

Every error below is one we have seen and documented, with what causes it and what fixes it. Find the message you are looking at — each one has its own page so you can send it to a colleague without saying "scroll to section 17".

Pick the message you are seeing

Most connection problems are one of these seven, and the first two cover the majority.

Authorization failed

The Bearer token your AI client is sending is missing, incorrect, or no longer valid. Check the key is still Active under MCP → API Keys, confirm it has not been rotated to a new version, and verify the whole token was copied.

Connected but no tools

The API key authenticated correctly but has no models assigned to it, so there is nothing for the server to expose. Add at least one model entry under MCP → Key Model Access for that key and reconnect.

OAuth login redirects to an error

The redirect URI registered on your OAuth client does not match the one the AI client is actually using. Add the client's exact callback URL under MCP → OAuth Clients and retry the sign-in.

Model not found / Access denied

The API key has no access to that model in Key Model Access. Add an entry for the missing model with the permissions that key should have, then reconnect the client.

Fewer records than expected

Either a domain filter on the key's model access is restricting which records are visible, or the Odoo user the key acts as cannot see the rest under standard Odoo record rules. Check the filter first, then the user's groups.

"Create Shared Client" is missing

An older version of the OAuth module is installed. Go to Apps → MCP Server OAuth 2.1 → Upgrade, and the action reappears.

Module not appearing in Apps

Odoo has not refreshed its module list. Enable Developer Mode, go to Apps → Update Apps List, then search again.

Setting it up for the first time?
