The MCP module does not appear in the Odoo Apps list

Odoo has not refreshed its module list. Enable Developer Mode, go to Apps → Update Apps List, then search again.

What you are seeing

  • The module is in the addons path or the Odoo.sh repository but not in Apps
  • Searching the module's technical name in Apps returns nothing
  • A colleague can see the module and you cannot

What causes it

Odoo has not refreshed its module list. Odoo caches which modules exist and only re-scans the addons path when asked, so a newly added module stays invisible until the list is updated.

How to fix it

  1. Enable Developer Mode. Settings → General Settings → scroll to the bottom → Activate the developer mode. The Update Apps List action only appears in developer mode.
  2. Update the apps list. Go to Apps → Update Apps List and confirm. Odoo re-scans the addons path.
  3. Clear the Apps filter before searching. The Apps view filters to Apps by default, which hides modules categorised as technical. Remove that filter, then search the technical name — mcp_server_odoo for the MCP Server itself.
  4. On self-hosted, confirm the addons path. If the module is still missing after a refresh, Odoo is not looking where you put it. Check that the directory containing it is listed in addons_path in odoo.conf and that the service was restarted after the change.

Searching the technical name in Apps returns the module and offers Install.

Why can I not install the MCP module on Odoo Online?

Odoo Online (*.odoo.com) does not allow custom server-side modules at all, so no MCP module — ours or anyone else's — can be installed there, and it will never appear in the Apps list. Odoo.sh and self-hosted instances do allow it. For Odoo Online, the working architecture is an external gateway that connects over XML-RPC with nothing installed inside Odoo.
